Vida

In film, TV, and media, we watch and learn about life. Our understandings of people from these mediums speak to the importance of diverse storylines, characters, and filmmakers. Vida (Life) is the first podcast of Hannah Dobson and Madison Crist, digital filmmaking majors at Stephens College in Columbia, MO. In this episode, they discuss Latinx/a representation onscreen and behind the scenes. They break down three of the most common tropes: The Spicy Latina, The Maid, and The Immigrant and analyze them within five different films. Their mission is not only to draw attention to inauthentic representation but also to why it matters.

Additionally, they had the opportunity to interview Kelly Daniela Norris, a Mexican-American director, writer, editor, and educator, on her opinions on Latina representation and her experience in the industry. Check back for that additional podcast!

The music featured is "Vida" by Lido Pimienta, an incredible Columbian singer. This song is featured in her album Color Triangular. (Free Music Archive)
